Winford Ray
Swan
September 22, 1950 — September 24, 2021
Hughes
Winford Ray Swan passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at the age of 71. He was born in Marianna, Arkansas to the family of Paul and Ruby Swan. As the fourth born child, Winford was blessed to share in the many adventures of childhood along with nine siblings. He received early education at Brickey Schools and attended high school in Marianna.
During his teenage years Winford became friends with a young lady named Nancy Johnson. In time they chose to make a lifelong commitment and on May 3, 1971, Winford and Nancy married. They made their home in Marianna and Brickeys, before eventually settling in Hughes where they have remained. The home was blessed with the birth of two children; Scotty Ray and Jennifer. Over the years the addition of grandchildren and great grandchildren have given the family many wonderful memories to cherish through time.
Winford was self-employed and considered to be a "Jack of all trades". He worked for a time managing Douglas & Lomason and most recently worked as a Commercial Fisherman. Like most men raised in the southern delta, Winford also enjoyed hunting and gardening. He took pride in living off the land, and wanted to help teach others how to be self-sufficient. Many meals graced his families table from a day spent in the woods hunting or on the water fishing.
In quiet times Winford enjoyed listening to old time rock and roll, with Creedence Clear Water Revival being one of his all time favorites.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Paul and Ruby Swan, brothers; "Tankey" Lewis Swan, Blan Dewayne Swan, and sister Debbie Hart.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nancy Swan of Hughes, son; Scotty Ray Swan of Hughes, daughter; Jennifer Pickle and husband Jimmy Ray of Snow Lake Shores, MS., brother; Tom Swan and wife Mary Jane of Bald Knob, AR,, sisters; Patsy Swan of Kansas city MO., Vicky Mathis and husband Junior of Forrest City, AR., Mary Ramey of Forrest city, AR., Kathy Swan of Florida, Renee Jonson of Forrest City, AR., four grandchildren; River Phillips and Destiny Phillips of Snow Lake Shores, Lucas Swan and Draven Swan of Lowell, AR., and two great great grandchildren Adalee and Cash.
