Obituary

Scott Speight, 68, of Hickory Plains, Arkansas departed this life on Friday November 19, 2021.  He was born in Beebe, Arkansas, on June 9, 1953, to Marvin and Geraldine Speight.

He attended school in Beebe, Des Arc and Jonesboro as the family moved around to follow his father's coaching career, but Hickory Plains was always his home.  He held many jobs over the years and approached each one the only way he knew how, with everything he had.  He was a spontaneous guy and could find things in common with almost anyone, no matter who they were or where they came from.

On August 10, 1983, he married the love of his life, Donna.  In true Scott fashion, he picked her up after work and said, "you ready to go get married?".  Well that simple phrase lasted for 38 years and the two of them created a marriage that withstood the test of time, she never left his side up to the very last moment.

It is known that he could enjoy almost anything, and his old saying was to "be as happy as you can for as long as you can."  The things that he cherished the most in his life were his wife, his children, his many friends, music, and the Arkansas Razorbacks.  He could listen to music for hours and never missed a Razorback game, no matter the sport.  He had a very trivial mind and could always pull up facts about sports and music from decades ago, as if it only occurred yesterday.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother Steve Speight.  Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Donna of Hickory Plains, his son Seth (Jessica McCallie) of Lonoke, his daughter Lauren of North Little Rock and a brother Larry of Cabot.  He also leaves behind countless friends from all over the country from all walks of life.

Graveside funeral services are 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Hickory Plains Cemetery by Garth Funeral Home.  Bro. Tony Crye and Dr. Melvin York officiating.  Honorary pallbearers are C L Bass, Chuck Dory, Mark Bell, Bobby Tippet, Rick Ford, David Wallace, Ronnie Ward, Tony Bell, Rick Swinney, Jerry Carlisle, and Chuck Tucker.
