Vara Ilene Cain, of Griffithville, Arkansas, passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 84. She was born on October 14, 1939, to the late Thomas Scott and Lucille Hughes.
In 1955, Vara married the love of her life, Lenard Cain, in Jasmine, Arkansas, with the ceremony officiated by T.W. Thompson. Vara obtained her GED in 1978, showcasing her commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth. She worked alongside her husband in farming for 50 years, raising cotton, rice, beans, and milo. Vara had a beauty salon in the Griffithville area for many years. Early in her married life she was an employee of the Van Heusen Shirt Factory, ITT, Remington Rand and Happy Holloways Grocery Store.
Vara was an active member of the Eastern Star, where she found deep connections within her community. In her free time, she enjoyed going to the casino and hunting deer, indulging in her hobbies and interests with joy and enthusiasm.
Vara Ilene Cain will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. Her warm smile and kind heart touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the memories of those who were lucky enough to have her in their lives. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and memories she leaves behind.
Vara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Scott and Lucille Hughes, as well as her beloved husband, Lenard Luther Cain.
Vara is survived by her loving son, Mitchel Cain, and her daughter, Charie Richards (Tommy) of Griffithville. She is also survived by her brothers, Allen, Danny, Harold, and Dave Scott of Mississippi; Michael Hughes of Sherwood; Dennis Hughes of Griffithville; and her sister, Marie Gregory of Mississippi. Vara leaves behind a legacy through her three grandchildren, Brandon Cain, Aaron Cain, and Kevin Richards, as well as six great-grandchildren.
