Thelma Mae Ripper, known fondly as "Granny", peacefully passed away on May 15, 2025, at Unity Health of Searcy, Arkansas at the age of 88. She was born in Dansby, Arkansas to Jim and Eloise Stepp on November 1, 1936. Later in life she met Harold Lee Ripper, and they were married in Dansby on February 14, 1950. After 62 years of marriage, Harold passed away January of 2012.
Thelma's journey through life was rich with experiences. She attended Marianna School through the 6th grade marrying at an early age and having her family. Later working at Hills Five & Dime before answering the call to Christian ministry in 1969. She served in various capacities within the Church of God of Prophecy for 20 years, spreading love and spiritual guidance wherever she went. Her dedication to her faith extended to her community, where she was known simply as "Granny" and was adored by all who knew her.
Thelma's gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to her family and community set her apart. She found joy in simple pleasures like sewing, cooking and homemaking, and her nurturing presence brought comfort to those around her.
Thelma was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jim and Eloise Stepp, her husband Harold, along with her brother and sisters, Amos Stepp, Dorothy White, and Marie Sims, as well as a grandson Brent Jackson and great grandson Ben Gore. She is survived by her loving children T.J. (Roy) Nelson, Harold Ripper Jr., and Kenny Ripper, along with a host of grandchildren: Amanda Minton, Brian Jackson, Ryan (Kristen) Ripper, Stephanie (Rodney) Dobbins, Kelly Ripper, Kim (Charles) Baker, Heidi (William) Pippenger, Lindsey (Chris) Martin, Keith Fisher, Wendy Graham, 23 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Thelma's legacy of love and faith will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
