Steven Walker Gray was born on June 25, 1947, to Leonard and Jackie Gray. The family lived in Forrest City before moving to Brinkley where Steve shared his childhood with an older sister, Jackie Lynn. He received early education at St. Francis Catholic School and became a 1966 graduate of Brinkley High School. He enjoyed participating in activities that included, Basketball, the Science Club and Radio Club.

On July 27, 1969, Steve and Jane Kenkel exchanged vows in Fayetteville. They lived in Jonesboro for a time, and eventually settled in Brinkley. For the next 55 years they shared memories of raising two children, welcoming their spouses and the birth of six grandchildren.

Steve worked at Midkiff Funeral Home, and in later years for Bob Neal & Son, where his gentle and quiet manner played a vital role in serving families.  His career in law enforcement began as a Radio Operator with the Arkansas State Police. Steve's professionalism, compassion and caring spirit became well known locally and throughout the state. After serving faithfully for 35 ½ years Steve retired at the rank of Captain.

Steve enjoyed being active in the community and supported various clubs that included the Masonic Lodge of Jonesboro. Steve was also a member of the Victory Bowling League and had outside interest in hunting and golfing.

Through the years his walk of faith began at the First Baptist Church of Forrest City and later at First Baptist Church in Brinkley. Because of his love for his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Steve now rests in peace. On October 22, 2024, at the age of 77 Steve passed away in Searcy. He was preceded in his journey by his parents, Leonard and Jackie Downing Gray, and sister, Jackie Lynn Gray. Steve is survived by his wife, Jane Gray of Brinkley, son, Lance (Erin) Gray of Hot Springs, daughter Jill Allen (John) of West Memphis and grandchildren Houston, Gray, Price, Lauren, Mary Claire and Sloan.

The visitation will be held at the Brinkley, First Baptist Church on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. with services following at 2:00. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Brinkley.

Memorials in honor of Steve may be made to the Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Children's Hospital or the First Baptist Church of Brinkley.
