Shirley Ann Howell, age of 81, of Carlisle passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 10, 2022. She was surrounded by her son, Daniel, daughter, Mary, granddaughter April and great granddaughter Macy.

She was born on June 6, 1940, at the family home in Palmer, Arkansas to Oliver and Mary Smith.   As a small community located in Holly Grove, Shirley received education at Holly Grove public schools. She was blessed in life to become a wife, homemaker, mother of five,  grandmother to an amazing 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She would live in Marvell and Hazen before moving to Carlisle to be close to family.

Raised in the Christian faith Shirley attended times of worship at the Church of Christ in Hazen. She  enjoyed the times spent with her church family and reading  her bible.

She liked to work crossword puzzles or when time allowed, take an occasional trip to the casino for a day out with family or friends.

Shirley worked in the school cafeteria at Hazen and was well known by the students and staff members she greeted on a daily basis. She became known as the lunch lady and after 24 years of service, retired from working at the school. Shirley was last employed working in the cafeteria at the nursing home in Des Arc.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Mary Francis "Molly" Smith, all of her brothers and sisters, son James Howell, daughters, Elsie Aaron and Rhonda Velero.

She is survived by her son, Daniel Howell; daughter, Mary Kirkemier and husband Rodger, thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
