Sherman Casper (Joe) Simons, age 80, passed away on August 15, 2024.
Joe was born in Pine Ridge Township near Clarendon, Ar., July 9th, 1944, to George Linous Simons and Lottie Monee Rogers Harris Simons. He was the last born of the family. On March 12th, 1965, he was united in marriage to Barbara Elaine Richardson at the Park Grove Missionary Church by the Reverend Kenneth Colvert.
He was a graduate of Clarendon High School in 1962, and served in the Arkansas National Guard from 1963 to 1970 when he was honorably discharged. Joe started Simon's builders along with his brother-in-law, Douglas Carroll Richardson in 1970 and worked in construction until his retirement in 2014 at the age of 70.
Joe was saved in the summer of 1954 at Park Grove Missionary Baptist Church where through the years he served as a Sunday School and BTS teacher until it closed in 2009. Then he joined the Clarendon Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Brinkley Gideons until it disbanded. He was an EMT from 1986 -1990's.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son in law, and Christian. He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; George and Lottie Simons, his sister; Edith Ramona (Sissy) Simons, brother Rebert Rogers (Bob) Harris, his beloved daughter in law; Amy Thornborrow Simons and his son, Michael Lynn Simons.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 59 years, one granddaughter Tiffany Charis Simons Hubner and her husband Sean Hubner, mother in law, Gertrude Richardson of Stuttgart, sister-in-law, Alpha Harris of Searcy, a nephew Johnny Rogers Harris and wife Deanna of Batesville, a niece Melanie Denise Bowman and her husband Brent and their children, Hayden and wife Emma of Little Rock, Ali Elizabeth of Searcy and a host of family and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Legacy Hospice staff for all their loving care and a special thanks to Megan Ellis, his Physical Therapist for her loving and tender care. To all our dear friends and neighbors who called and came, who helped in so many ways during this time; may God richly bless each one of you.
