Sallie Elizabeth
Westbrook
December 30, 1943 — September 7, 2021
Holly Grove
During the Christmas season of 1943, Louis and Irene Smith were anxiously awaiting the arrival of a very precious gift. The trees and tinsel were still shinning bright on December 30th, when Sallie Elizabeth made her entrance into their family. At the time they were living in Clarendon and Sallie received education through the eighth grade at the local school. With a desire to continue studies she later obtained her G.E.D.
She was blessed in life to become a wife, mother and grandmother. As a mother to Donald, Michelle and Janice, she enjoyed the many childhood activities, and later the addition of their spouses and the joys of grandchildren. Later in life she married Samuel Westbrook on December 23, 1992. After many years together sadly, Sallie experienced his death on March 6, 2009.
Sallie was considered a "jack of all trades" and began her working career in the local factories. She worked at the Clarendon Shoe factory, until it closed. Sallie then returned to school in Stuttgart receiving certification as a Cosmetologist and later went on to receive a teaching degree. Sallie is known by many in the Holly Grove and Clarendon area from her work as a CNA. She retired from that venture but continued throughout her life in many areas of helping others.
As a lady of many talents, including cooking, her chicken and dumplings where well loved by family and others in the community. Very skilled with a needle and thread, Sallie loved sewing and quilting. She made countless quilts through the years that were handed down through the family. Sallie was pleased to pass her skills down to her granddaughter.
For times of worship Sallie attended the first Assembly of God Church in Clarendon. For years she has enjoyed the teaching of scripture and fellowship of the church family. In community involvement, Sallie enjoyed the daily participation at the Senior Citizen Center. Her smile always added to their times of eating, partying and holiday celebrations.
On Tuesday September 7, 2021, Sallie passed away at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Little Rock. At the age of 77 she had been given many years of love and blessing through family and friends in her daily journey. Sallie was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Sam Westbrook, brothers; Frank Smith, George Smith, sisters; Thelma Reynolds, Carnell Wolf, Lurene James, Dorothy Williams, Grace Cruthis, and Katherine Oltmann.
She is survived by children; Donald Wofford Jr (Tina), Michelle Fox (Vernon), and Janice Foster (Hollis) all of Clarendon, brothers; Eddie Smith (Mary) of Pine Bluff, Jimmy Smith (Nadine) of Bryant, four grandchildren; Tray Wofford (Jamie), Brandon Bonds, Erika Metcalf (Cody), Matthew Metcalf, and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Smith, Cody Smith Jr, Braylen Bonds, and Lageasha Bradley,
