Obituary

Marvin Eugene Sherrod was born on December 25, 1929; a wonderful Christmas present to his parents, Vernon and Mildred.  He grew up surrounded by family which included his six brothers and sisters.  Early on Marvin had a love for hunting and fishing—a passion he would keep for the rest of his life.

By 1945, Marvin found himself enlisting in the service.  He would serve a total of seven years in the Army and also in the Navy.  He fought overseas in Japan and oversaw escorting of prisoners.

On December 11, 1968 Marvin married Francine Russell and they made their home in Marvell, where they would remain for the rest of their journey together.

Marvin worked for Mohawk Rubber and Tires until the plant shut down their location in West Helena.  Afterwards he became a cotton gin manager.  In his spare time, he was a member of the local V.F.W.

After his retirement, Marvin got to do more of what he loved the most:  spend time with family and love on his grandkids.  He taught them about hunting and fishing.  Marvin loved to help people and his family often talked about his selflessness and caring ways.

On Thursday, June 22, 2023, Marvin departed this life at his home in Marvell, surrounded by his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory four sons, Stanley Sherrod of Marvell, John Deiss of St. Louis, Missouri, Kenny Deiss (Christa) of Hughes and Jim Hostetler (Angie) of Benton; two daughters, Pynie Schwantz (Stacy Scott) of Earle and Celeste Sherrod of Marvell; nine grandchildren, Carmen Scarlett Schwantz, Harry Schwantz, IV, Brandon Deiss, Christa Nall, Kacie Watson, Dana Sherrod, Patience Brenly-Feble, Johnny Deiss, Jr., Sam Hostetler, and Lindsey McCuin; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Jerry Sherrod of Atkins and Frank Sherrod of Doniphan, Missouri; one sister, Ola Faye Nelson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and many, many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mildren; his first wife, Neva Jo; his second wife, Francine; two brothers, Jim Sherrod and James Sherrod; and a sister, Goldie Hitt.

A memorial service will be held for Marvin at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Bob Neal & Sons Brickell Funeral Home in Marvell.
