Martha Harrelson
Turner
March 1, 1937 — January 25, 2026
Calhoun City
Martha Harrelson Turner, aged 88, departed this earthly life peacefully on January 25, 2026, in the comfort of her home in Marvell, Arkansas. Born on March 1, 1937, in Calhoun City, Mississippi, she was a cherished daughter of Ford and Julia Bennett Harrelson.
Martha's life was one of service and dedication, both in her professional life and her personal pursuits. She attended high school in Calhoun City and went on to further her education at the Mississippi University for Women, where she nurtured her passion for music. Her remarkable career began at Marvell Public Schools before securing a position at Marvell Academy. Through her many years of teaching, Martha shaped the futures of countless young adults, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Martha's love for music was evident in her talents as a pianist. She served the Marvell First Baptist Church faithfully, as the music director and organist, sharing her gift of music with all those around her. She also had an affinity for the game of Bridge and was an active participant in the Marvell Garden Club. However, the joy she found in these hobbies paled in comparison to the happiness she discovered in the company of her grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 66 years, Thomas Turner Sr., their infant daughter, and her sister Elizabeth Harrelson. She leaves behind a legacy of love to her son Thomas Turner Jr. and his wife Courtney of Marvell, and her treasured grandchildren Nathan, Lauren, and Wesley, of Starkville, Mississippi, and brother Lee Harrelson and wife Linda of Tupelo, Mississippi.
Martha was a strong Christian and was a beacon of strength, compassion, and wisdom, and her spirit will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
