Louis Odie Oliger was born in Sherrill, Arkansas on October 30, 1931. He was a son to Lee and Annie (Orton) Oliger and was one of nine children. Louis entered heavens gates on October 02, 2021 at the age of 89.
Louis was a man of honor, serving his country as a Master Sargent in the United States Army. He fought in Vietnam and Korean Wars, along with serving one tour in Germany. While in the service he was a manager of the NCO Club in Germany and an advisor to the National Guard in South Dakota. He retired from the Army at the age of 42. His wife and the love of his life, Geneva accompanied and supported Louis throughout his career. In 1974 Louis and Geneva moved to Hattieville and he continued to work after his military retirement as an equipment operator at Pinecrest in Morrilton, Arkansas.
Louis was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church in the Overcup Community. Louis or "King Louie", as known in church, was very active in serving as a greeter and helped manage the Men's Breakfasts. Louis had a giving heart and was a faithful servant to the Lord.
Louis was a member of the National Rifle Association and believed in spreading the word of firearm safety and importance. He was an avid outdoorsman, never missing the opportunity to hunt or fish. Louis enjoyed horseback riding and was President of the Center Ridge Riding Club for many years. He was known through the community for his prize vegetable gardens. Most importantly, Louis had a great love for his family and was an exceptional father and pepaw. His children and great- grandchildren were the highlight of his life. Louis will be missed fiercely by those who knew and loved him.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Victor, Don, Charles, and Paul Oliger.
He is survived by his wife of 67 wonderful years: Geneva (Pledger) Oliger of Hattieville; son: Mark Oliger and wife April of Vancouver, Washington; daughter: Lisa Otts and husband Rodney of Perry, Arkansas; brother: Herman Oliger and wife Sandra of Cabot, Arkansas; sisters: Dorothy Burton of Little Rock, Sally Brown of Perryville, and Ann Edwards of White Hall, Arkansas.; grandchildren: Jason Otts, Teresa Staton; great-grandchildren: Anna Otts, Adalyn, Owen, Ivy, and Isaac Staton; and adoptive grandson and special friend: Dillon Evans.
Visitation for Mr. Oliger will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Morrilton, Arkansas. Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Kilgore Cemetery in Birdtown, Arkansas with Bro. Craig Duncan officiating.
