Lois
Criswell
August 2, 1946 — February 6, 2023
Wheatley
Sylvia Lois was born on August 2, 1946. At the time of her birth, the family of Aaron and Nellie Dodson made their home in St. Charles, Arkansas. She became simply known as Lois and was blessed to share in the memories of childhood along with eleven siblings.
On February 12, 1994, Lois married Maurice Criswell. They both attended the St. Charles Baptist Church together for many years. Once the courtship began it lasted only a year before they decided to make a lifetime commitment. The sweet and tender ceremony was performed by the Justice of the Peace and took place in DeWitt. They lived in different areas that included Dewitt and Clarendon before eventually settling in Wheatley where they remained.
In a working career Lois began at a young age helping the local farmers. She could drive a tractor with the best of them and worked part time for Bobby Ray, Larry Clifton and later on the Hugh Griggs farm. Years later she made the choice to become the owner and operator of the Monroe Tavern. As a people person Lois enjoyed the daily comradery with the local patrons and welcoming the new faces. She remained at the Tavern until stepping away to retire.
Lois enjoyed a variety of different hobbies. She enjoyed bowling, growing a vegetable garden and was skilled with a needle and thread. She also loved to hunt deer and squirrel and to run trot lines in the White River.
Lois was a lady of faith and knew the importance of a relationship with her Saviour, Jesus Christ. She currently attended times of worship at the Wheatley Baptist Church. On February 6, 2023, just six days before her 29th wedding anniversary, Lois's earthly life ended at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by her parents Aaron and Nellie (Cleaver) Dodson, siblings; Elmer Dodson, Jim Dodson, Jewell Henley, Chris Dodson, and Bonnie Jackson.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years Maurice Criswell, siblings, Eldon Dodson of Clarendon, Paul Dodson of Salem, Ronnie Dodson and Brenda of Hot Springs, Ivy Boyster of Clarendon, Judie Parmley and Charles of Clarendon, Alice Caldwell and Vernon of Clarendon and a host of extended family and friends.
