Obituary

On Thursday, August 22, 2024, Lillie Mae Lumpkin passed away peacefully at her home in West Helena.

Lillie was born on March 27, 1944 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Buford and Leola Jennings.  She grew up in Mississippi surrounded by her large family which included four brothers and three sisters.

After leaving her studies behind, Lillie made her journey to Arkansas where she settled in West Helena and began her working career as an office manager for Dr. McCarty and then for Cox Communications.

She attended church at West Helena United Pentecostal and enjoyed fishing and gardening in her spare time.  Lillie's grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them.

On December 12, 1989, Lillie married Jessie "Jake" Lumpkin in Helena.  The couple spent many happy years together until Jake's death in 2016.

Lillie is survived by her son, Richard Walters, Jr. of West Helena; two grandchildren, Jonathan Walters and Mitch Walters; four great-grandchildren; sister, Rena Hull of Moon Lake, Mississippi; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Lumpkin; her parents, Buford and Leola Jennings; four brothers, E.J. Jennings, L.P. Jennings, Dewey Lee Jennings and B.J. Jennings; and two sisters, Lorene Hopson and Bertha Blake.

A funeral service for Lillie will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 3 at Bob Neal & Sons Brickell Funeral Home in Marvell.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena.  Brother Kenneth Harman will officiate over the service.
