Obituary

Lee Roy Slagley, 74, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2021 at Springhill Baptist Hospital with his wife, Donna, youngest son Matthew, and Chelsea Harrell by his side.  Lee was born September, 15, 1946 in Fillmore, MO.  He was a 1963 Bonner Springs High School graduate and also a graduate from Kansas City, Kansas Community College with a degree in accounting.  For a short time he owned and operated his own arcade and pool hall.  During college he played pool professionally.  After college he worked as an accountant for the School of Nursing at KU Medical Center.  Lee was very talented and he eventually went back to school to take art classes.  Lee loved old cars, painting, playing pool, playing chess, good jokes, fishing, and most of all playing his guitar.  His passion in life was his love for music.  He played bass guitar and then later lead guitar.  He loved playing music for family reunions, honky tonks, and later playing gospel music for his church and nursing homes.  He loved telling stories about the time he worked on the dairy farm in Greenwood, MO., and riding horses.  Lee loved spending time with his family and friends and loved to tell them jokes to make them laugh.  Most of all he knew his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He loved his church, serving his church and his church family.  Lee was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  Lee was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Slagley and Lola Brock Slagley, his brothers, Charles McCall, and George Gumm, a sister, Dorthy Taylor, and granddaughter, Hillary Ann, a cousin, and best friend, Don Johnson.  Lee is survived by his wife, Donna Slagley, six children, Steve L. Slagley (Nikki) of LaCygne, KS., Sondra L. Rigney of Shawnee, KS., Susan L. Perryman of Centerton, AR., Shelley A. Jessen (David), of Pineville, MO., Joshua D. Walker of Edgerton, MO., Matthew I.
