J.W. McWhorter of Hazen, Arkansas passed away Sunday afternoon, September 1 at Baptist Hospital North, with his family by his side.

J.W. was born to Judy (Weatherley) and Johnny McWhorter of the Johnson Chapel Community December 28, 1942.    He attended Des Arc School through the 8th grade.  Then he began farming with his dad.  In 1963, he met and married Patricia (Bailey).  After a very short courtship, one month, the young couple were married and made their home in Des Arc.  The family was blessed with two children, Calvin and Judy.

J.W. owned and operated the McWhorter Garage on Main Street, with Pat by his side every waking minute, for many years.  Later in life, he and Pat relocated to Hazen to a farm where they enjoyed sawmilling and being together.

J.W. is survived by son Calvin (Tammy) McWhorter and daughter Judy (Dennis) Clark of Hazen, six grandchildren Trenton McWhorter, Terra (Steven) Bodkins, Christopher Clark and Samantha (Tyler) Metcalf, stepchildren Lacee (Corbett) Prince and Addie Cowen and four great grandchildren, Logan and Trenton McWhorter and Callie and Matthew Bodkins and two sisters Mary McWhorter Prior and Pat McWhorter Cunningham.

J.W. was preceded by his parents Judy and Johnny, brother George McWhorter and sister Ola Mae Cotton.

He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
