John Calvin King, 83, of Hunter, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026. Calvin was born on November 2, 1942 and one of five sons to the family of Paul and Virginia Jones King. At the time of his birth the family made their home in Cotton Plant, Arkansas where Calvin recieved his education through the public schools.

Calvin's early years in Cotton Plant were filled with hard work and perseverance, traits that served him well throughout his life. Starting in the fields with his father, he would later continue the farming tradition on his own. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to varied, profitable ventures, including cattle-raising, beekeeping, and the operation of King's Grocery. Together with Freida, they welcomed locals and visitors alike to their store, creating a warm community hub that will always be remembered.

Following the store's closure in Cotton Plant, the Kings relocated to Hunter, where Calvin enjoyed a well-deserved retirement. His many hobbies included fishing, hunting, and card-playing, but it was the time spent with his grandchildren that he cherished most of all. As a man confident in his faith, Calvin was raised in the Christian tradition and continued to attend services when able, last attending church in Pumpkin Bend.

Preceded in death by his parents, his son Jacob King, and his brothers Leroy, Alfred, David, and Luther King, Calvin's resilient spirit was a testament to his enduring love and commitment to his family. His legacy will live on through his loving wife and companion of 42 years, Freida King,  sons Cal King (Mary) of Des Arc, Lyle King (Melinda) of Judsonia, John King (Christy) of Union City, TN.,  Ashley King (Sandra) of Pleasant Plains, Kevin Ferrell of Heber Springs, Chris Roberts (Nikki) of Hunter, and his daughter Tara Taylor (Travis) of McCrory. He will also be fondly remembered by his 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and comfort to his life.

While there are no services planned at this time, the family wishes to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received. They ask that you remember Calvin as he was - a hardworking, kind-hearted man whose love for his family was boundless.
