John Dale Byrd passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the age of 78. He was born on July 12, 1942 to the family of John and Jettie Byrd in Salem, Arkansas. One of seven children, John received early education in the nearby community of Moro, becoming a 1960 graduate of T.A. Futrell High School in Marianna.
Beginning in 1961, John served in the United States Air Force for four years as a Jet Engine Mechanic. Upon receiving an honorable discharged in 1964, John returned home and began farming with his father. He drove a truck and several other jobs before beginning a career with the Postal Service in 1988. He would remain a dedicated and faithful employee for many years until his retirement in 2012. Active in his community, John was a member of Lafayette Lodge 189, F&A Masons, and the Eastern Arkansas Scottish Rite.
While home on leave, in Blytheville, Arkansas, John would meet a young lady from Steele, Missouri named Jequita. On December 23, 1962, they married and through the years the Byrd home was blessed with the birth of two sons, John "Jeb" Byrd and Tharon Lee Byrd. John was given the added joys of seeing his family grow with the addition of spouses, five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Raised in the Christian faith, he attended the Salem Methodist Church with his family and has remained a life long member of the church.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jettie (Jones) Byrd; wife, Jequita Byrd; son, Tharon Lee Byrd; brother, William Edward Byrd; sisters, Joanna McLeod, Emma Lou Byrd, and Bonnie Byrd.
He is survived by; son, John "Jeb" Bryd and wife Cindy; daughter-in-law, Nieda Byrd; brothers, Lester Morgan Byrd, Farel Joe Byrd; five grandchildren, Rocky, Amanda, Patrick, Katie, and Logan ; 12 great grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Salem Methodist Church at 4:00P.M. Memorials may be given to Salem Cemetery Fund, 2675 Lee 929, Moro, Ar. 71368
