Obituary

With heartfelt reflection, we commemorate the life of Joey Franklin Rodgers, affectionately known as J.R., who was born on November 16, 1957, in Brinkley, AR. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. As Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Joey made everyone around him feel cherished, and loved.

A dedicated and reliable disc jockey, Joey was the life of KBRI radio station in Brinkley, Arkansas until his retirement. His voice, a comforting presence in the lives of his listeners, filled the airwaves with passion for the music he shared and the community he served. Joey was also known for his love of football; not only as an avid fan, but also as the respected voice who called the games for the local Brinkley Tigers.

But Joey was not just defined by his career, he was a man of many facets. He enjoyed fishing, talking with his sons and daughters, and treasuring quiet moments spent with his beloved wife, Betty, to whom he was loyally married since January 7, 1989. His love for his family was nurturing, and unwavering. Some of his greatest joys in life came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving him is his loving wife, Betty Rodgers; his children, Harold, Stewart, Matt, Tonya, and Heidi; his grandchildren, Alisha, Hunter, Alexis, Arionna, Drystan, Hallie, Isla, Bobby, and Johnna; and his great-grandchildren, Kynzlee, Kamdynn, Kendra, Hadleigh, Ellie, and Brylan.

His parents, James and Joan Rodgers, and his siblings, Jimmy Rodgers and Paulette Bramel, preceded him in death.

In the words of Albert Schweitzer, "The only thing of importance, when we depart, will be the traces of love we have left behind." Indeed, Joey's love has left indelible traces in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him.
