Obituary

Joe Calvin Kemmer, age 80, of Marvell, passed away on September 8, 2025. Born on December 12, 1944, in Helena, he was one of four children to the family of Roy and Clara Lou Kemmer. Joe received early education through the public schools and in 1962 graduated from Marvell High School. Joe chose to continue his studies in Tennessee, at the Nashville Automotive Diesel College for one year.

On June 18, 1966, he married Rose Lazenby and together they raised two sons, John and James. Through the years many of their greatest joys were found in seeing their family  grow with the addition of six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Joe had many different hobbies such as fishing and as a skilled marksman enjoyed hunting and sharing his skills with his sons. His love of the outdoors also carried over into his career as a farmer, where Joe was a well-known and respected member of the farming community.

Outside of his profession, he was a gifted accordion player and singer and always enjoyed being a member of the Gospel Express Band. He served his country and community with pride, as a member of the National Guard, The Gideons, and President of the Marvell Cemetery Association.

Joe enjoyed times of worship and shared his faith with his church family at the Calvary Baptist Church in Marvell, serving as Treasurer, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Rollan and Clara Lou Kemmer, brother Roy Kemmer, and sister Sally Reed.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rose Lazenby Kemmer, sons John Kemmer (Patti) and James Kemmer (Amy), all of Marvell, his six grandchildren; Abby Kemmer, Avery Kemmer, Audrey Kemmer, Jimmy (Jennifer) Marshall, Brandon (Starr) Marshall, and Adam (Cassandra) Marshall, as well as his five great-grandchildren; Ameera Marshall, Ellis Marshall, Mindy Dillon, Merritt Marshall, and Whitton Marshall. He is also survived by his brothers Bob Kemmer (Sandra) of Brinkley, Don Kemmer of Marvell, and his sister Kathy Drennan (Dale) of Lexa.
