Jesse Carl Barber was born on July 16, 1939 in the tiny town of McCaskill, Arkansas. He was the seventh child of Thomas and Era Barber.
Jesse served his country in the U.S. Air Force where he was a Morse Intercept Operator stationed in Alaska.
On February 25, 1977, Jesse married the love of his life, Marla Lester. They made their home in the Arkansas Delta and soon added a son and three daughters to their family.
Jesse worked as a custodial supervisor for Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas for 15 years until his retirement. He attended church and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wheatley.
Reading and fishing were two of Jesse's favorite pastimes. He had a passion for watching NASCAR and Jeff Gordon in particular. He was an avid bird watcher and he loved eagles. Jesse was also known as a lawn mower extraordinaire!
Jesse leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 46 years, Marla; son, Joey Barber (Lori) of Poplar Grove; three daughters, Robin Cutchall (David) of Fouke, Lynnie Harris (Lester) of Delight, and Kim Cannon (Patrick) of West Plains, Michigan; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerald Barber (Barbara) of McCaskill; and many family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild; two brothers, Martin Barber and Jappy Barber; and four sisters, Estelle Parker, Louise Fowler, Pauline Bevens and Juanita Chun.
There are no services scheduled at this time for Jesse. The family will announce a memorial service at a later date.
