Jerry Don
Griggs
April 3, 1942 — February 1, 2021
Brinkley
Jerry Don Griggs, age 78, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Springhill Baptist Medical Center in North Little Rock. A son of George and Edna (Massey) Griggs, he was born on April 3rd, 1942 in Scotland, Arkansas. In time the family moved to Moro, Arkansas, where he received early education and later attended Brinkley High School.
He married Harriette Hallum in 1959 and they remained a very close couple all through the years. They were blessed with three children and the joy of many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
"Papa" was a jack and master of all trades. Fisherman, hunter, gardener, builder, husband. Even if he hit something he didn't quite know how to do, he would try until he figured it out. He didn't take "No" as an answer. Most days you would find him on the river fishing by his Meme's side. He couldn't stand it when someone caught more than he did. (which was most of the time). Nevertheless, he kept fishing. Other days he would be in the garden probably dressed in his overalls on a 100 degree day tilling and taking care of his tomatoes. Not just anyone could garden to his standards, but then again, no-one could grow Papa's vegetables.
When hunting season rolled around, Papa would always see deer that was never the problem. Actually hitting one was the issue. But it was never the shooters fault, but always the gun's fault. But he would eventually get one every now and then. Hundreds of people are living in houses that Jerry once built. His tireless hands worked hard to build homes for so many, including his own and his families. This was a skill that he not only had mastered but that he passed on to his son and grandson who worked alongside him for many years. But the thing that Papa was probably the best at was storytelling. Oh he could tell a story. Whether it was his years running the bait shop in Houston, stories about him and his Dad in Clinton, AR, his farming years with Harriette and the kids, or the many trips and memories he has had with his grand kids, Papa knew how to tell a good story.
Papa will now have a new story to tell. One of how he has met his Savior and worshiped alongside Meme at his feet. Though his story here on Earth is over, we know that his life with Christ is just beginning. He has exchanged his old worn out earthly body for a new heavenly one. One day Papa, we will worship alongside you and Meme in eternity, and oh what a day that will be!
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna Griggs; wife, Harriette Griggs; one daughter, Regina Griggs and one brother, Hulen Griggs.
