Jerry Marvin
Ellis
September 15, 1949 — October 16, 2025
Jerry Marvin Ellis (76), of Clarendon, passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2025. He was born September 15, 1949 to the late Jack "Honey" and Juanita Ellis of Clarendon, the fourth of seven children. Jerry graduated from Clarendon High School in 1967 and attended college at the University of Central Arkansas. He married Betty Holmun in January of 1974, and they made their home in Rector, Arkansas. They and their two children often returned to Clarendon on weekends and holidays, where they shared many happy times with his parents and six siblings and their families. Jerry enjoyed teaching his children, as well as his nephews, to hunt and fish along the Cache River.
After 35 years as a signal maintainer with Union Pacific Railroad, Jerry retired back home in Clarendon, where he was active in the Monroe County Chapter of the Arkansas GOP. Jerry enjoyed attending church and associated men's meetings/retreats, as well as hunting, fishing, and carefully tending his muscadines.
His five grandsons were his pride and joy, and he especially loved spending time with them. Throughout his life, Jerry held many titles as a son, brother, husband, father, and friend, but the title, "Pa" was, by far, his favorite.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Juanita Ellis, and sister, Judy McKown. He is survived by three brothers: Joe (Kitty) Ellis, of Omaha, Johnny (Tammy) Ellis, of Clarendon, James Ellis, of Little Rock; two sisters: Jackie (Jimmy) Rogers, of Clarendon, and Janet (Jimmy) Tweedle, of Alexander; son, Jason (Megan) Ellis, of Clarendon; daughter, Julie (Derrek) Gardner, of Brighton, TN; 5 grandsons: Jagger (Ashlyn) Young, of Piggott, Jarek Ellis (Kailan), of Rector, Jase Ellis, of Brighton, TN, Jake and John Luke Ellis, of Clarendon; 1 great-granddaughter, Kinslee, and a second great-granddaughter, Haven, due to arrive in December.
Services are to be conducted by Bob Neal and Sons and will be held on Monday, October 20th at the First Assembly of God Church in Clarendon with visitation at 1:00 and the funeral at 2:00, Brother Richie Malone officiating. Pallbearers are Jagger Young, Jarek Ellis, Jase Ellis, Jake Ellis, John Luke Ellis, and Derrek Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, tributes can be sent at alivingtribute.org toward restoration of U.S. National Forest.
