Obituary

Virginia Jean Fortenberry Junior passed away on Monday December 5, 2022 at the age of 95. She was born on July 8, 1927 to the family of John and Myrtle Fortenberry in Brinkley. Jean shared childhood along with four siblings and received education through the local schools, graduating in 1945.

On July 3, 1973, she became the wife of Jerry Junior and shared in the joys of 49 years together.

Jean was blessed throughout her life, and took great pride in being a wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. Jean worked outside the home as a Banker for the Superior Federal Bank for ten years.

Jean loved spending time with her grandchildren, working in her yard, cooking for family and playing golf. She was active in her community as a  member of BP&W, the American Legion Auxiliary and Brinkley Country Club Auxiliary.

Jean attended times of worship at the Brinkley Broadmoor Baptist Church. She enjoyed  times spent with her church family, and participated in the Women's Missionary Union.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, and four siblings; Frank Fortenberry, Maxine Newby, Lorene Mah, and Frances Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Junior of Brinkley; son, Steve Nichols (Amy) of Enola, Arkansas, grandchildren, Kaylee Coker (Seth), Cade Nichols, Creg Nichols, Katheryn Nichols and Scott Ussery (Abbigail); two great grandchildren, Rhett Coker and Remi Coker.

Visitation will be on Friday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Brinkley, with services following at 2:00. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
