Obituary

Janice Teal Morgan died January 10, 2022. She was born in Phenix City, Alabama on April 25, 1938, to Frances Newsom Teal and Oma Alvie Teal. Alvie died before Janice's second birthday and a new beginning for Frances with A.D. Thomas brought the young family from Alabama to Clarendon, Arkansas in 1949. Janice played on the basketball team and was an Arkansas Girls State Delegate. She was crowned Homecoming Queen 1955 and named Valedictorian of the Clarendon Class of 1956. She married Harvey Morgan at the Clarendon First United Methodist Church on November 20, 1959. They raised three sons in this community where Harvey farmed and were recognized as Monroe County Farm Family of the Year in 1968. After her family was raised, Janice worked at Mid-Delta Clinic for 33 years, retiring in 2015. She was an active member of the Clarendon First United Methodist Church, singing in the choir for decades and serving as a member and officer of the United Methodist Women. To her community, she was known for her unwavering kindness, elegance, genuine care for others, pride in her family, and wonderful cooking which she consistently shared. To her family, she was the picture of grace, unconditional love, and devotion. A listening ear and endless warm hugs never had to be requested, a characteristic she instilled in her sons and grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Trevor (Yvonne) of Conway and Justin (Trish) of Sherwood; five grandchildren, Rebecca Morgan, Rachel Morgan, Jakob Morgan (Madison), Jordyn Brown (Daniel) and Jaycob Hensley (Kera); and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Jerry Teal (Gwen) of Brinkley and his family. She is predeceased by her parents, Alvie Teal and Frances and A.D. Thomas; her husband, Harvey, and two sons, Todd and Greg.

The memorial service will be limited to family, due to Covid-19 restrictions, on Monday, January 17 at Clarendon First United Methodist Church. Burial at 3 p.m. at Shady Grove Cemetery will follow the service. Graveside attendance is open at your discretion.
