Obituary

Janet Alison “Sissy” Steeland, 66, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Sissy was born on January 9, 1960, in Clarendon, Arkansas, to Ned James and Olivia Lovell James. She was raised in Clarendon and graduated from Clarendon High School with the Class of 1978.

Sissy began working at Menard Title & Abstract at the young age of 14. What started as a job during her teenage years grew into a lifelong career. Through her years of hard work and dedication, she became the Office Manager and Title Abstractor. She took great pride in her work and became a familiar and trusted face to the many people she served throughout the years.

Away from work, Sissy enjoyed the simple things that made life special. She loved reading, admiring beautiful flowers, and watching hummingbirds. The beach was one of her favorite places to relax, and she enjoyed keeping up with friends and sharing conversations on Facebook. She loved to cook, and when the opportunity presented itself, she was always ready for a trip to the casino.

Sissy loved her family and the time she was able to spend with those closest to her. Whether it was a conversation with a friend, time spent with family, a good book, or simply enjoying the beauty around her, she knew how to appreciate the moments that made life meaningful.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ned James and Olivia Lovell James.

Sissy is survived by her husband of ten years, Kevin Steeland; son, Braden Chastain of Mississippi; stepsons, Daniel (Heather) Steeland of Clarendon and Morgan (Gracie) Steeland of Marvell; brothers, Allen James of Clarendon, Phil James (Tammy) of Deville, Louisiana, Rodney James of Clarendon, and Greg James (Karen) of Clarendon; three grandchildren, Kade Chastain, Dalton Chastain, and Sadie Olivia Downs; nieces and nephews, Conner James, Austin James (Mandy) , Audrey James Christie (Michael),

Evan James, and Harper James; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Kylen James, Oakley James, Lakyn James, Paxton James, Cambrie James, Dutton James, Callahan James, and Michael “Moose” Christie.

Sissy will be remembered for the life she lived, the friendships she treasured, and the love she shared with her family. The memories she leaves behind will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
