James Jefferson Smith, 88, of Clarendon, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, in Clarendon. Born on December 18, 1937, in Holly Grove, Arkansas, James lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.
James dedicated his career to farming at Miller Farms in Holly Grove, Arkansas. His commitment to the land and his work reflected his deep connection to the community and the values of perseverance and dedication that defined his life.
A man of many talents and interests, James found joy in woodworking, fishing, hunting rabbits with his dogs, gardening, and accompanying his beloved wife to flea markets. These hobbies brought him happiness and allowed him to share cherished moments with those he loved. He was also a devoted member of the Clarendon Church of Christ, where he nurtured his faith and formed lasting bonds with fellow congregants.
James is survived by his loving wife of many years, Thelma McCoy Smith; his son Terry J. Smith (Cindy) of Blackton, Arkansas; daughters Mary Chism (David) and Debbie Rogers (Mike), both of Clarendon; grandchildren Derek Rogers (Brittany), Rachel Chism, and Mindy Smith; and great-grandchild Lynnon Rogers. He was preceded in death by his son Michael G. Smith; brothers Leonard Smith, C.P. Smith, Russell Smith, and Melvin Smith; as well as sisters Ellen Woodard, Lorene Crisel, and Jesse Ross.
James's legacy is one of love for family and friends, a steadfast work ethic, and an appreciation for life's simple pleasures. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
