James Scott
Grigsby, Jr.
October 19, 1937 — August 15, 2022
Leesburg
James Scott Grigsby, Jr., originally from Nashville, Tennessee passed away on August 15, 2022 at the INOVA Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. He was 84.
Scott lived most of his life in and around Nashville and was born there on October 19, 1937, the only child of his parents, Jimmy and Mary Hunter Grigsby.
Growing up, he attended Palmer Elementary School in Nashville and Swanee Military Academy. Scott graduated from Vanderbilt University's School of Engineering, and while there he met the love of his life, Glenda Frances Garrett on a blind date. He always said it was love at first sight. Scott and Glenda were later married in 1959.
Scott was commissioned as an officer into the United States Navy in 1959 at his Vanderbilt graduation and served for three years, working in the Nuclear Weapons Program while stationed in McAlester, Oklahoma. After returning home to Nashville, he went to work for the Southern States Industrial Council (later, the U.S. Industrial Council) as Secretary Treasurer. Scott later owned and operated Tennessee Metal Works until his retirement in 2005. He always viewed every job he had as a platform to proclaim the Gospel of his savior Christ Jesus, and he continued working with Christian ministries after retirement.
Scott was proud to serve his country and he was very active in his community and church. For many years he attended St. Paul Southern Methodist Church in Nashville and was active in church activities in northern Virginia where he and Glenda retired. He was also a member of the Nashville Rotary, Fellowship of Companies for Christ, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Gideons and Toastmasters.
In his spare time, Scott enjoyed Bible study and teaching, Evangelism Explosion, Civil War history, SEC football, reading, "close up magic" such as card tricks, and most of all, enjoying his beloved grandchildren.
Scott leaves behind to cherish his memory: wife, Glenda; two sons, James Scott Grigsby, III (Teresa) of Olive Branch, Mississippi and Glenn Garrett Grigsby (Anne) of Vienna, Virginia; grandchildren Glenn Garrett Grigsby, Jr., Jackson Scott Grigsby, Dawson Ross Grigsby, Samuel Peters Grigsby, Walter Nathan Grigsby, Hunter Caroline Grigsby; and dear friends James Wilson (Woody) and Kathy Beasley Clark and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Mary Hunter; and one grandson, O'Neal McGowen Grigsby.
A graveside service for family members will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Schaffhauser Cemetery in Marvell, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are Glenn Garrett Grigsby, Jr., Jackson Scott Grigsby, Dawson Ross Grigsby, Samuel Peters Grigsby, Walter Nathan Grigsby, James Wilson, "Woody" Clark and James (Jim) Garrett Clark.
