Greer's Ferry

Obituary

James Everett Evans was born on October 30, 1933, in Hickory Plains, AR to Ernest Carl and Susie Evans.  He attended elementary school at Hickory Plains and High School in Des Arc before joining the United States Air Force in 1953.  While in the Air Force he was stationed in Texas, Colorado, California, Mississippi, Alaska, Arkansas, Germany, Thailand, England, Morocco, Indochina and Azores, serving as a Precision Measurement Equipment Technician.  After twenty years in the military, James retired to his home in Hickory Plains.

In 1952, James married the love of his life  for sixty nine years, Willie Mae Treadwell. They were blessed with two daughters, Connie and Bonnie. Connie and husband, Chester Smith reside in Des Arc and Bonnie and husband, Bob Podry reside in Great Falls, Montana.  They have four grandchildren, nine great children and one great great granddaughter.  James was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother, Carl Evans and one sister, Marie Goodwin.

James loved yard work, woodwork and carpentry.  As James and Willie grew to retirement age, they moved to the Greer's Ferry area.  After purchasing a piece of property, they began using his carpentry skills to build the home of their dreams and landscape, close to the lake area.

James was a member of the Hickory Plains United Methodist Church, serving for 49 years.

During the last couple of years, his health began to decline, after suffering a stroke.  The family were by his side during these months, feeling very blessed to have this time together.

No service is scheduled at this date but a "Celebration of Life" will be held in the near future.
