James Edward Daniel “Jed” (55) passed away at his home on September 5, 2026 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife of 32 years, Mona, and his daughters, Melinda and Gladys. During his last days at home, he found peace in the familiar sounds of Willie Nelson and episodes of Gunsmoke. 

Jed was born on July 9, 1971, to Terry Daniel and the late Vickie Daniel. He grew up in Hunter, Arkansas, where he spent his childhood and teenage years and formed many friendships and lifelong memories. Him and his wife, Mona, started their life together in Romance, Arkansas, and got married in 1994. Throughout the years, Jed worked as a farmer, a profession he truly loved. He took great pride in the land, valued hard work, and found joy in the farming ways of life. In recent years, he continued to farm, and enjoyed working for Duncan and Abbie Williams as a caretaker and hunting guide at The Roost in Clarksdale, Mississippi, a job he truly excelled in. He thoroughly enjoyed his work at The Roost and sharing his love of the outdoors with others. Anyone who knew Jed knew just how much he loved spending his time outdoors, whether it was time spent hunting, fishing, or being on a tractor. He truly felt a special kind of peace while in the woods, sitting in a duck blind before sunrise, or catching fish.

Above all else, Jed took most pride in being a husband and a father. He took every opportunity to share the things he loved most with them. He treasured each and every early morning spent in the deer stand, getting a fishing line unstuck from a tree limb, and all of the countless tractor rides with his girls. These trips were much more about hunting; he instilled life lessons, shared stories, and made memories that will be cherished forever. The love he had for his girls was evident in everything he did, he was truly the epitome of a family man and a girl dad. Jed’s greatest blessing in life was his wife, Mona. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and hard work. From their early years together in Arkansas, to the life they created over more than three decades of marriage, they faced countless challenges and celebrated every accomplishment together. Through long days, hard work, and countless sacrifices, they stuck by each other’s side and built a life they were proud of. Their marriage was a testament to “in sickness and in health”, perseverance, and an unwavering love for one another.

Jed also cherished the time he spent with his close circle of friends, many of whom became like family over the years. Many of his fondest memories were made with these friends, whether it be trapping in Minter City, spending time hunting in Wyoming or Alabama, or bowfishing on the Mississippi River. He treasured these men in his life, the adventures they shared, and learning the importance of true friendship.

Jed is survived by his wife, Mona Daniel of Clarksdale, daughter, Melinda Eskridge (Taylor) of Starkville, daughter, Gladys Soldevila (Donovan) of Clarksdale. He will also be fondly remembered and survived by his grandson, Elijah Eskridge, who brought immense joy and love to his life. He was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of another grandson, Asher Eskridge, who is expected any day now. He is survived by his sister Kerri Cobb (Chris) of Little Rock, and his father, Terry Daniel of Hunter. He is also survived by his bonus son, Rock Morris, whom he loved as his own. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vickie Daniel.
