Obituary

James Franklin Brown, aged 95, of Brinkley, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. Born on July 18, 1930, in Marvell, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Whitt and Gertrude Hartsfield Brown. James attended the Marvell public schools and in his early years, worked alongside his father farming and was blessed to marry LaVerne Horner.

In 1951, his life took a significant turn when he was inducted into the Army. He proudly served his country, both stateside and overseas in Korea. His bravery and dedication were recognized with numerous medals, including the Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal. After serving his country with honor for five years, James received his honorable discharge and became a member of his local American Legion Post 68.

Upon returning stateside, James secured a position with Riceland Foods, where he remained a valued employee for the next 32 years before retiring. However, his love for the land called him back, and he returned to farming for a time, alongside his son Leslie.

On August 8, 1982, James accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized. He became a member of the First Baptist Church, where he found comfort in reading his bible and sharing the value of his inheritance in Christ with his family by his side.

A man of noble character, James' life was filled with courage, love, faith, and a strong work ethic. His favorite saying, "Toodle De Do!", brought smiles to many faces and will continue to be a cherished memory for his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents Whitt and Gertrude Brown, his wife, LaVerne Horner and six siblings.

He is survived by his son Leslie Brown (Judy), daughter Pamela Butts (Roger), four grandchildren, Christy Lewis (Corey), Nathan Brown (Kalen), Stephanie Butts, and Courtney Clough (Oscar); four great-grandchildren, Hallie, Holten, and Harrison Brown and Krew Lewis; and a brother, Kenneth Wayne Brown.

"Toodle De Do", Pappy, until we meet again.
