Jack Foster Caperton, III, of Cotton Plant, went to his heavenly home July 13, 2024. He died peacefully, with his family by his side.

Jack was born in Newport, AR, August 20, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ruth Kyle Shelton Caperton and sister, Ruth Ann Neal. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Pulliam Caperton, his children, Angela Cornell (Mike) of Little Rock, Jack Stan Caperton (Tangie) of Beebe and Cindy Kloss (David) of Beebe, 7 grandchildren: Rob Pearson (Renee) of Little Rock, Andrew Cornell (Norma) of Little Rock, Patrick Cornell of Little Rock, Brittany Brown (Payton), of McRae, Shelton Matthews (Josh) of Beebe, Jaclyn Cox (Dustin) of Beebe and Jessica Kloss (Jake Schlenker) of Beebe, and 8 great grandchildren.

Jack attended and graduated Cotton Plant High School in 1956. He attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway before enlisting in the US Army. He served for 2 years in the US and Germany where he was a member of the Elite Honor Guard and the Demolition Team.

He was a sixth-generation land owner and farmer.

In 1991, Jack was elected Woodruff County Sheriff and served 12 years. Those years turned out to be a highlight of his life. Being a social person, he loved serving the people of Woodruff County and spending time with them. He was known as the "singing Sheriff" sharing his beautiful baritone voice on many occasions in public and private venues.  One of his favorite experiences, while Sheriff, was he and his department having the honor to provide protection and security for President Bill Clinton while visiting Woodruff County.

Jack served on the Woodruff Electric Board of Directors for 31 years.  He held the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer during his time there.  He was considered a pioneer of the electric co-op program and a devoted board member.

He was a life-time member of The First United Methodist Church in Cotton Plant where he served on the Board of Trustees, Finance Chair, and as a member of the choir and soloist for over 60 years.

He was a member and past Master of Richmond Lodge 94 which later demitted to Colony Lodge 90.

In his down time, Jack enjoyed being an avid gardener, hunter, and fisherman. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He loved to spend holidays with his family, especially Christmas in his and Carolyn's home.  He looked forward to, with excitement and anticipation, family trips to Branson every summer.

A celebration of Jack's life will be held at the Cotton Plant, First Baptist Church at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 with burial at Cotton Plant Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held after the Graveside Services at the First United Methodist Church in Cotton Plant.
