Lewis Hershel Ferguson, aged 78, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Marianna, Arkansas. Born on March 13, 1947, in Marvell, Hershel was one of eleven children to the family of Bert Lee and Mattie Morgan Ferguson.
From a young age, Hershel's parents instilled in him the importance of education and a good work ethic, values that guided Hershel through his life and his career. Having earned his GED, he chose to continue his studies at Crowley's Ridge Votec, obtaining his certification as a machinist. He secured a position at the Yale Hoist Corporation, located in Forrest City, where he remained a dedicated and valued employee for 30 years, before choosing to retire.
Hershel shared a beautiful life with his wife, Peggy Blair, whom he married on January 25, 1966, in Marianna. Together, they created countless memories raising their two children along with Stevie Clemons, Keith Smith and Glenda Blair who they laid claim to as their own. Through the years they were blessed to watch their family grow with the addition of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As an active member of the Trenton Baptist Church, Hershel served as a Deacon. Saved at a very young age he always loved sharing the value of his inheritance in Christ. One of his greatest joys was witnessing his grandchildren embrace Christianity as their personal faith. Hershel's love for his Savior along with gospel music was evident as he often played the guitar and sang as part of the Gospel Express. Hershel was a man of strong character, known not only for his unwavering faith, but his dedication to family, his kindness, and generosity. He will be deeply missed by all who know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Mattie Ferguson, a son in law who he loved with all his heart, Kevin Jones , siblings, John Ferguson, Lee Ferguson, Mack Ferguson, Jerry Ferguson, James Ferguson, and Debbie Ferguson.
Hershel is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Peggy Blair Ferguson, his loving son, Eric Ferguson (Heidi) of Millington, TN., and his caring daughter, Amanda Jones (Tony) of Pocahontas, AR. Hershel was a cherished brother to Bo Ferguson of Harrison, AR., Pete Ferguson (Juanita) of Mt. Nebo West VA., and sisters, Patty Smith and Della Long, both of Harrison, AR. Hershel will also be fondly remembered by his seven treasured grandchildren, ten great grandchildren.
