Obituary

Mary Frances Morris Spurlock Coffman went to her heavenly home January 14, 2023. She was a resident of the Chambers Nursing Home in Carlisle for a short period of time.

Frances was born in Earle, AR on April 28, 1930, to Everett Morris and Eunice Turner Morris. She grew up in the Dyer/Holly community. Frances attended the Dyer School and graduated in 1947 from Holly Grove High School.

Frances was attending the Lawrenceville Church with her family one Sunday and a handsome soldier on crutches walked in with his mother. She knew right then that he was the one for her! His name was Laymon Glen Spurlock. Glen told Frances later that he had promised God that if he lived through his horrific injuries from the war that he would go to Church again with his mother.

Glen and Frances married Jun 9, 1947. They made their home in the Holly Grove community their whole lives. During their marriage, Frances cooked several meals a day for her large family and had to have the evening meal ready at 6:00 o'clock sharp! They farmed, raised gardens, canned vegetables, and raised some of their own meat. She became quite the seamstress raising all those girls. She lovingly made Glenda's Homecoming Queen suit and Carolyn's wedding dress.

Frances worked hard her entire life, even as a child. She learned to cook, clean, chop firewood, chop and pick cotton, and several other things involved with living on a farm during the depression. Frances was always mothering and taking care of someone; her younger siblings, her husband, her seven children, and her mother. The Beebe Retirement Center reported that she ordered them to leave her roommate alone, that SHE could take care of her.

After Glen and Frances moved to Holly Grove from Maddox Bay in 1967, Frances started to work at Thompson's Drug Store and worked there for numerous years. She was always involved with getting her children to their sporting events; football, track, cheerleading, basketball, and being a home room Mother. Frances taught Sunday School at the Methodist Church. Glen and Frances became good friends with the Pastor and Gretchen Chapman. They enjoyed playing dominoes and cards with them. We all are pretty sure that Mamaw Spurlock did not approve of the cards, though. Frances was a member of the Believer's Fellowship Church in Holly Grove, American Legion Auxiliary, MaMa's and in her earlier years, the Home Demonstration Club.

Glen passed suddenly on November 22, 1992. Her mother Eunice died the following January. Suddenly, Frances had no one to take care of until she met and married Donald Coffman February 28, 1997. She continued working hard. She helped him with his carpentry work and was his gopher. Often Frances would have to nudge him to finish his jobs. She enjoyed hunting, camping, and just being in nature while married to Donald.

Frances was tough as they came and not lazy one bit. She spent her whole life tending to others and was completely selfless. Others always came first. Even when it came to serving a meal. She wanted to be last to make sure everyone had enough. She loved the Lord first and made sure that her children went to Church every Sunday. (and every Revival that she could drag them to) She went above and beyond as a Mother, giving her children the food and nourishment that their bodies and souls needed for this lifetime and the next.

Survivors are her children: Teresa (Sam) Southerland of Conway, Glenda (Jimmy) Henson of Helena, Shirley (Alvin) Lindley, of Clarendon, Stanley (Renee) Spurlock of Clarendon, Carolyn (Tommy) Miller of Holly Grove, Nell Lawrence of Brinkley, and Lisa (Jerold) Degunion of Clarendon, Grandchildren: Allen Southerland, Brian (Laura) Southerland, Grant Southerland, Darrell Henson, Michael Henson, Jason (Jackie) Lindley, Ashley (John) McCoy, Shaw (Rebecca) Spurlock, Reagan (Lacey) Miller, Madeline (Hunter)  Herrington, Terri Wall, Patrick Wall, and Jacob Degunion, Siblings: Mildred Craig of Clarendon and Betty Owens of Lexa.
