Obituary

Floyd Gerlach, born on December 5, 1940, in Holly Grove, Arkansas, passed away on April 2, 2024, in Montgomery, Texas. He was one of seven children born to  Floyd and Alma Ables Gerlach.

On March 13, 1978, Floyd married the love of his life, Bernice Davis. They made their home in  Holly Grove, but also lived for a time in Waynesboro, Tennessee and Foley, Alabama. Floyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity.

He graduated from Holly Grove High School in 1959 and went on to serve his country with honor by enlisting in the United States Army the same year. Floyd's military service took him to various stations, including Alaska, Fort Carson, Colorado, and Fort Lewis, Washington. After a four-year tour of duty, he transferred to the Army Reserves and continued to serve until 1965.

Following his military service, Floyd built a successful career as a farmer and truck driver, becoming a well-known figure in the farming community. He dedicated himself to working the land and took pride in his profession until his retirement.

Floyd was a proud member of the American Legion and was actively involved in his community. He enjoyed hunting and tending to his garden, which he lovingly shared with family and friends. His passion for life and his warm personality endeared him to all who knew him.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Alma  Gerlach, his son Mark Gerlach, daughter Marla Gerlach, brothers Kenneth Gerlach, Billy Gerlach, Jerry Gerlach and Larry Gerlach, as well as his sisters Ethel Rae Chism and Minnie Lee Parks.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Bernice Davis Gerlach, his sons Brandon Gerlach (Alicia) of Montgomery, Texas, Jeff Gobbell (Kelly) of Spring, Texas, daughter Angela Thomas of Memphis, Tennessee, as well as his grandchildren Jeremiah Gerlach, Shiloh Gerlach, Levi Gerlach, Mercy Gerlach, Cameron Gobbell, Cassidy Gobbell, Grant Gobbell, Zach Thomas, Micah Thomas, Leah Thomas, and eleven great-grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in peace, knowing that he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
