Elwanda Lynwood
Neaville
August 28, 1936 — January 16, 2024
Searcy
Elwanda Lynwood King Neaville, 87, of Des Arc passed away January 16, 2024 in Searcy. She was born August 28, 1936 in Des Arc, AR to Madie Patterson King and Marvin J. King. Mrs. Neaville was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gloria Dunbar, her beloved son Scott King Neaville and her husband of 65 years Charles Keith Neaville Sr.
She is survived by son Dr. Charles Keith Neaville Jr and wife Susan; grandson Charles Keith (Trace) Neaville III and his wife Sarah Beth; grandson Andrew Scott Neaville; and precious great-granddaughter Guinevere Elizabeth Neaville all of Searcy. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews who loved their Dewie along with many cousins and friends she held dear to her heart.
Lynwood attended school in Des Arc where she graduated in 1954 as an Honor Graduate and received an award for Perfect Attendance for 12 years. Her childhood was idyllic living on Erwin Street in several different houses where her father always had dogs and bees. She worked for him at the Palace Drug Store and attended Beebe Junior College from 1954-1956 where she met Chick. She completed her BSE in Business Education from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1958 and married Chick that summer. They made their home in Griffithville where the only job available for her was 5th grade so she took the job and over the next few years got her elementary education degree which led to a 37 year career as a 4th and 5th grade teacher teaching well over 1000 children. The last 25 years she taught in Des Arc. Students recall her fun classroom with songs and games and most students gaining some kind of nickname which she never forgot. She always had a story about each and every student when she would run into them. She said she devoted her life to God, her family, her students and supporting Chick in his coaching career. They loved to travel, attend sporting events (especially with Keith and Scott) and were present every time the Church doors were open to help in any way needed. When her precious grandsons came along she and Chick were available whenever they were needed. They loved to go to their ballgames, pick them up after school for a treat and take them on trips. Her nieces and nephews also got this same treatment, and they loved her dearly. In retirement they spent many hours on road trips or just riding around Des Arc. She always had her crossword with her and Chick pointed out anything that had changed during the day. They were totally devoted to each other and were a positive example for many people. She said this past weekend , as usual, that she had a very good life, and she had strived to serve God the best way that she could.
A devout Christian, Lynwood was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Des Arc where she was in the Chancel Choir, United Methodist Women, a Sunday School teacher for 40 years, Bible School teacher and headed, along with Sandra Wyatt, the Kitchen Committee until health led them to turn over their duties.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. immediately followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Celebration of Life service with Pastors Jaimie Alexander and Melissa Maskell officiating at the First United Methodist Church, 605 Erwin Street, Des Arc, AR 72040. Burial following the service will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Des Arc. Arrangements by Garth Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Tommy and Sheila Holland, and James and Sandra Wyatt for their devoted friendship and to the caregivers that have taken such good care of Lynwood in the past months.
