Obituary

The family of Clarence and Ruth Hodges welcomed the birth of their daughter Elizabeth Lorene on August 4, 1946. Their home was located in Brinkley, Arkansas at the time of her birth. As the first born she became simply known as Lorene and shared in the joys of welcoming two younger siblings into the home.  After becoming a 1964 graduate of Clarendon high school Lorene chose to continue her education in Little Rock at Draughon School of Business.  Later in life she returned to attend the University of Arkansas receiving her Batchelor's degree. She went on to obtain her master's degree in social work from UTA, completing five years of study.

Lorene loved to travel and as a military family was blessed, to see and live in many different areas. She currently made her home in Grand Prairie, Texas. She was blessed in life to become the mother of two children, Stephen and  Cynthia "Lanette". In time she was given the added joys of seeing her family grow with the addition of five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

As an active member of her community, Lorene volunteered for Compassion.com. This organization helped children to receive medical care, food, education and most importantly, hear the gospel. She also took part in her neighborhood watch program and provided foster care for animals. With a kind and compassionate heart, Lorene touched the lives of many at the Davita Dialysis Center and the ER at Parkland Hospital in Dallas where she worked as a Social Worker. When time allowed, Lorene also enjoyed researching her ancestry and gardening.

Lorene was a Christian and knew the importance of a relationship with her Saviour Jesus Christ. She attended times of worship at the Avenue L Baptist Church in Ft. Worth. Lorene enjoyed writing the church newsletter and spending time with her church family.  On February 22, 2022, at the age of 75, Lorene's earthly journey came to a close as she was escorted through the gates of her eternal home. She was preceded in in her journey by her parents Clarence Joseph and Ruth Iwana (Carter) Hodges.

She is survived by, her daughter, Cynthia Lanette Lanfear (Raymond) of Arlington, Texas,  son, Stephen Edwards (Tracy) of Burleson, Texas, five grandchildren, Michael Edwards, Robert Lanfear, Carrigan Edwards, Andrew Lanfear , Zachary Lanfear, three great grandchildren, Abigail Edwards, Sophia Edwards, Oliver Edwards, brother, Danny Hodges of Alvarado, Texas and sister, Lavena Slaughter of Brinkley, Arkansas.
