Douglas Cotter of Wheatley passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the age of 70. He was born in Columbus Ohio on July 28, 1951 and the third child to the family of Don and Mildred Cotter. He became simply known as Doug and received education at Whetstone High School in Columbus.
During his childhood Doug attended times of worship at the Church of Christ and through baptism, accepted Christ as his own personal Savior. Most recently he attended worship at the Methodist Church in Greenwood.
Proud to do his part in service to his country, Doug enlisted with the United States Army. On January 4, 1971 he began his training as a Unit Armorer Supply Specialist. He received the sharpshooter badge w/rifle bar (M-16), and the expert badge w/rifle bar (M-14) and grenade bar. After being released from active duty Doug would continue his service in the Army Reserve receiving an honorable discharge in May of 1976.
From a young age Doug had an interest in working on cars and at the age of twelve began helping at his dad's shop. Later around the age of 20 he began working with various dealerships. He enjoyed drag racing and entered many competitions in National Trails, Richwood Race Tracks in Ohio, also in Memphis and in Russellville at the Centerville Drag Way. For the last 14 years he has worked as owner and operator of Doug's Performance Shop located in Wheatley. As a jack of all trades, Doug was also the local handy man and worked on lawn mowers, ceiling fans, decks and plumbing for his friends and family He enjoyed music having quiet the record collection, some of his all time favorites were Bob Seger and Elvis. On a little softer side, Doug was an avid lover of cats and always had a cat around his home. Unable to swim, Doug enjoyed having the opportunity to take adult swimming lessons.
In 2004 he met Marie Morian. They made their home in Wheatley and have been blessed to share in the many joys and memories made through the years.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; Don and Mildred Cotter and brother Don Cotter.
He is survived by his companion of 18 years, Marie Morian, sons, Don Cotter and Misti Crane of Columbus, Ohio, Robb Cotter (Aubrey) of Marysville, Ohio, step daughter, Kim Embrey (John) of Greenwood, Arkansas, grandchildren Kailee, Marissa, and Nila Cotter, Noah, Sarah, and Jonah Embrey; brothers, Jim Cotter, of Columbus, Dave Cotter (Kay) of Delaware, Ohio and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Cotter of Columbus, Ohio.
