Dorothy Marie
(Florida) Meyer
August 17, 1926 — April 15, 2022
Maumelle
Dorothy Marie (Florida) Meyer was born on August 17, 1926 in St. Louis, MO; a daughter to Thomas and Kathryn (Long) Florida. Dorothy passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 95 in Maumelle, AR on Friday, April 15, 2022.
Orphaned at an early age and growing up in the Masonic Home in St Louis MO, she knew the hardship of life. Dorothy married Bert Meyer in Springfield MO. His job soon transferred them to Little Rock, AR. Later she moved to Maumelle, AR where she resided for many years. She was always active and her love of the outdoors blossomed. Dorothy loved a good adventure whether she was hiking in Colorado or the Grand Canyon, tent or RV camping, fly fishing, or traversing into caves, she was in her element on the trails. Dorothy was a true conservationist and a lifetime member of the Ozark Society. She helped bring the Big Dam Bridge to fruition, which she walked hundreds of times. She also helped campaign for the Buffalo River to become the first National River. Being an avid reader, she would often lend her opinion to the Arkansas Democrat newspaper. Later in life when traveling was no longer possible, Dorothy would sit at the top of her driveway and visit with all the neighbors each night and offer a chair and a glass of cheap wine. She always had a bowl of water and treats for the dogs who would come along. Dorothy lived a full life of amazing experiences and will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; and brother: Thomas Eugene Florida.
Dorothy is survived by her granddaughter: Heidi Thomas and husband Alan of Marshfield, MO; great-grandchildren: Samantha Thomas of Lawrence, KS and Jared Thomas of Norman, OK. Jack and Linda Stowe of Maumelle, AR were great friends and neighbors whom she adored.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Ozark Society, Pulaski Chapter in Dorothy's memory.
