Obituary

Dennis Ray Satterfield, of Brinkley, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones on December 29, 2025, at the age of 93. Dennis, or "Grandad," as many affectionately called him, was born to Frances and Veola May Satterfield on September 12, 1932, in a quaint rural home in Forrest City, nestled on Stone Street.

Dennis' life was characterized by hard work, dedication, and a profound love for his family. After completing his elementary education in a small school in Brinkley, he went on to become the President of his senior class and graduated in 1950. On July 12, 1953, he married Virginia Sue Campbell, marking the start of their 67 years of marital bliss.

Dennis held various professional roles during his lifetime. Between 1959 and 1963, he and his close friend Lew Sorrells owned and operated an ice cream truck that served the Brinkley area. However, he was most proud of his lifelong career in the grocery industry. It all began at his father's grocery store, "Penny Savers" in Brinkley, followed by Satterfield's Supermarket, Quick Shops, located in Brinkley, Wynne, and Forrest City, and finally the Forrest City Grocery Company, where he was honored as the top salesman multiple times.

When he wasn't busy at work, Dennis enjoyed square dancing with The Brinkley Squares and traveling with his wife, Sue. From exploring all the state parks in Arkansas to going camping, taking numerous trips to Florida with their children and grandchildren, cruising to the Caribbean, and celebrating their 50th anniversary at the Grand Canyon, their adventures together were endless. A man of many talents, Dennis also enjoyed working in his yard and crafting beautiful wooden pieces.

Dennis was a well-known and respected member of his community, serving as a Mason for 50 years, and was honored to be elected as Grand Master three times. His devotion to his faith was evident in his active involvement in the First United Methodist Church, where he served several years as Sunday School Superintendent and Chairman of the Board for three years.

Above all, Dennis was a loving family man who cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Veola May Satterfield, his beloved wife of 67 years, Sue Satterfield, a cherished daughter, Cynthia Sue Smith, adored granddaughter Brandy Hickman Webber, and his brothers, Frank and O'Lane Satterfield.

He is survived by his son, Greg Satterfield of Fairfield Bay, and daughter, Nanette Louise Pitts (Greg) of Maumelle, and sister, Frances Mayola St. John of Atlanta, Georgia. He also leaves behind a legacy of three grandchildren, Alisha Jacobs (Nikia), Blake Hickman (Randi), and Bliss Hickman; six great-grandchildren, Cabel Hallum (Kaitlin), Chaley Patterson (Ethan), Marissa Webber, Preston Hickman (Joy), Bristol Hickman, and Dragen Hickman; great great-grandchildren, Noan Kate Patterson, Olivia Sue Patterson, Wilks Patterson, James Alan Hickman, Holly Hickman and Luke Hickman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church in Brinkley, where we will share our memories, celebrate his life, and the love he shared with us all.

Services will be on Saturday, January 10th at the Brinkley First United Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 A.M.
