David Ray
Townsend
July 1, 1956 — October 11, 2025
Wheatley
David "Ray" Townsend, 69, of Wheatley, AR, passed away on October 11, 2025. Born on July 1, 1956, to Harold Ray and Bernice Marie Townsend, Ray was a beloved father, brother, and grandfather who enjoyed life and lived to the fullest.
Ray completed his high school education in Stuttgart, AR., in 1974 and chose to pursue further studies at ASU in Jonesboro, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business agriculture. A man of many talents and interests, Ray grew up farming and his entrepreneurial spirit carried that further to obtain his crop insurance, realtor, pilot, gunsmith and commercial driver licenses. Ray had a need for speed with his passion for flying and the thrill of racing on a track, both auto and horses. In Texas, Ray utilized his CDL and hauled across the state until he moved back to Arkansas.
Ray's hobbies were not limited to his personal interests. He knew the importance of a relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ. His relationship with God began to deepen when he moved to San Antonio, Tx., where he attended church regularly. He continued to build his relationship after moving back to AR., attending times of worship at the New Fellowship Church in Brinkley, AR.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Bernice, and his half-sister Melanie T. Jacobs.
He is survived by his two cherished children, Adam Ray Townsend of Stuttgart, and Dara Marie Townsend of Brinkley, his loving brother Sanford Hutson (Melinda) of Hot Springs, and his adored grandchildren, Jaden Ray Townsend and Preslee Marie Townsend.
As we remember Ray, we celebrate a life well lived and honor a man well loved. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His family wants to express their immense gratitude for the condolences and support they have received during this difficult time. Your kindness and sympathy are greatly appreciated.
