Obituary

Charles Richard Newson Sr., affectionately known as Ricky, passed away on November 6, 2025, in West Helena, Arkansas, at the age of 71. Born on January 14, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, Ricky lived a life rooted in love for family, hard work, and the simple joys of country living.
For 32 years, Ricky worked as a dedicated farmer for Lawrence Agri. His commitment to his work reflected his steadfast nature and deep connection to the land. Farming was not just a job for Ricky—it was a way of life that mirrored his values: patience, perseverance, and pride in honest labor.
Ricky found joy in the outdoors and embraced every opportunity to be surrounded by nature. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman who cherished time in the woods or by the water. At home, he raised chickens with care and affection.
More than anything else, Ricky's heart belonged to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jeanette Newsom; his brother Lenny Newsom Sr.; sister Ann Whitson; and grandson Jacob Bates. He is survived by his beloved wife, Julia Hamilton Newsom of the home; his son Ric Newsom Jr. of West Helena; daughters Jennifer Miller of Denham Springs, Louisiana; Amanda King of Dewitt; Rebecca Steiner of Marvell; Melanie King of Poplar Grove; and Marsha Creasey of Jonesboro. He also leaves behind his brothers James Newsom of Lambrook; Sammy Newsom of El Paso; Andy Newsom and Clarence Newsom of West Helena; Michael Newsom of Greenbriar; and Harold Newsom of Weiner.
Ricky was a proud grandfather to 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
One treasured memory shared among them is how he would lay on the floor laughing and wrestling with all the grandkids—a tradition filled with warmth and laughter that will live on in their hearts.
Ricky had a gift for making people feel welcome wherever he went. Whether playing poker or dominoes with friends or watching westerns and crime shows from his favorite chair, he brought humor and light into every room. His laughter was contagious, his kindness unwavering, and his presence comforting.
He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and will miss him always. Ricky's legacy is one of love—love for family, for nature, for laughter—and it will continue to shine through those who were fortunate enough to know him.
May his memory bring comfort to all who carry him in their hearts.
