Charles Ervin Gray, age 88, of Morrilton, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 28, 1932 in Morrilton, Arkansas to Tennie Bell (Craig) Gray and Durham Gray.
Charles graduated from Morrilton High School in 1950. Charles married his wife of 68 years, Bettye Jewell (Williams) Gray in June of 1953. Charles served in the Army during the Korean War, later as an airplane technician. He then worked as a letter carrier in Morrilton. He furthered his education at the University of Central Arkansas and became a real estate broker having his own business as well as working for Century 21. Charles loved geography, math and history. Charles loved his family and was devoted to his three daughters and one son, and many grandchildren. He loved coaching his son in baseball as well as basketball, leading his teams to many championships. Charles loved fishing for crappie on Lake Dardanelle, duck hunting, supporting the Morrilton Devil Dogs, and going to the horse races, and playing dominoes and trivia games. He enjoyed playing golf and was a long time member of the Morrilton Country Club; where he participated in many tournaments and achieved two holes-in-one. He often took his family to Petit Jean Mountain, Lake Sylvia, and Buffalo River for picnicking and swimming. He was a skilled story teller, and amused his family and friends with great stories.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents: Durham and Tennie Bell Gray; sisters: Roma Lee Kirtley, Norma Jean Dodson, and Ermalene Bouska; brothers: W.C. Gray and John Durham Gray; son: Gary Ervin Gray; and grandson: Thomas Mayall.
He is survived by his wife: Bettye Jewell (Williams) Gray of Morrilton; daughters: Renae Gray of North Little Rock, Jeanie Caudle and husband Paul of Sherwood, Roma Lisa Gray and husband Michael Luna of Fayetteville; grandchildren: Hilary Johnston and husband Jason of Conway, Evan Gray and wife Becky of Morrilton, Theresa Smith and husband Keith of Conway, Alisha McCool and husband Trey of Conway, Jessica Bradford and husband David of Greenbrier; Cole Gray of Greenbrier; Mitchell Harrellson of Little Rock, Jordan Harrellson of Little Rock; great-grandchildren: Caleb Johnston, Lily and Jack Gray, Lane Smith, Trinity and Isabelle Bradford, Jenna Harrellson, and Grace Mayall.
Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Morrilton.
