Carla Gearldean
Odell
July 7, 1935 — February 12, 2026
McCrory
Carla Gearldean Hollis O'Dell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 at Woodruff County Health Center, McCrory, AR on February 12, 2026.
Born to her parents, Nannie Lorine and Wilburn Enlow Horner on July 7, 1935 in Miston, TN, Gearldean grew up as one of four children. Her life was a testament to the resilience of her spirit and love. She was educated at Miston Public Schools and her work ethic was evident from an early age. She carried this determination into adulthood, working at the Van Heusen Shirt Factory, Des Arc Cotton Gin, Jr Food Mart, and Des Arc Nursing and Rehab Center. Gearldean was known for her dedication, reliability, and the joy she brought to her colleagues.
On April 30, 1949, Gearldean married J.W. Hollis, who preceded her in death in October of 1998. They were married for 49 and a half years. She found love again with Kester O'Dell, to whom she was married from 2001 until his passing in 2010. Gearldean was a devoted wife and doting grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy.
Gearldean grew up faithfully attending the Baptist Church in Miston, TN with her grandmother, Mommy. She would also go with her grandfather, Poppy, to the Church of Christ. Sometimes Mommy would also take her to the 'holy roller' church in Miston. Gearldean said she got a little scared, but that's where you could find the good music. After she moved to Des Arc, she attended the Church of Christ. Later, she would attend Gospel Mission Church with her children and enjoy the good music and preaching there. Gearldean was a woman of many passions. She loved music and dancing, and her laughter was a melody that brought joy to every gathering. She cherished time spent with her family and many friends.
Gearldean is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, J.W. Hollis and Kester O'Dell, daughter Brenda Williams, and brother Rayburn Horner. She is survived by her sons, Lannie Hollis, Ray (Jan) Hollis; son-in-law Danny Williams; two sisters, Hiawatha (John) Bell of Tennessee and Gilda (Morrow) Mounts of Illinois; eight grandchildren; Lance (Shannon) Hollis, Lesia (Jimmy) White, Lonnie (Constance) Hollis, Lindsey (Drew) Widener, Joshua Neal Williams, Bethany (Cory) Benton, Rachel Hollis, and Adam Hollis; twenty great-grandchildren; Cody, Sadie (James), Justin, Samantha, Colton, Laurie-Jewel (Jonathan), Jack (Rylee), Jaylon, Cole, Jordan (Nalorie), Preston, Luke, Jayeden, Davis, Journey, Max, Bronx, Marley, Kanaan and Rowan; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren Lainey, Landry, Jackson, Zoey, Cooper, Summer, Baylee, Emma, Everly, Rory, Jackson, Ivan, Bryson and Audrey.
Her life was a tapestry of strength, resilience, and enduring love for her family. Gearldean's legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
