Wallace Byrl Shaw of Brinkley passed away on January 20, 2022 at the age of 90. He was born on February 7, 1931 and one of three children, to the family of Herbert and Anna Shaw Sr. Their home was located in Clarendon, Arkansas where Byrl received early education. Byrl later became a graduate of Holly Grove High School.
At the age of 18, Bryl joined the National Guard. Proud to do his part in service to his country he served for 35 years and retired a Full Bird Colonel. Throughout his military career he received many accommodations. Some of these included the National Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal (German), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2 Awards), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (2 Awards), Expert Qualification Badge for the Carbine 30 and 45 cal. Pistol.
On April 21, 1957 Byrl married the love of his life, Betty Hood, in Sardis, Mississippi. They chose to remain in Brinkley and began building their lives, home and family. They shared in the joys of raising two children and seeing the family grow with the addition grandchildren. Well known and active in the community, Byrl was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed the honor of being named citizen of the year.
Byrl knew the importance of relationship with his Savior Jesus Christ and through baptism accepted Christ as his personal savior. For many years he has been a member and attended times of worship at the Brinkley First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Herbert and Anna Shaw, and wife Betty Shaw and brother Herbert Shaw Jr. . Byrl is survived by his son; Wally Shaw and wife Nina; daughter, Kelly Shaw; two grandchildren Denver Shaw, and Kim Shaw Henderson; two great grandchildren, Braxton Henderson and Laila Jones; sister, Barbara Williams and husband Robert, along with a host of extended family and friends.
