Obituary

Billy Joe Stewmon passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Forrest City, Arkansas at the age of 90. He was born on September 10, 1934, in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, and was the only child of Thomas and Liberty Bell Stewmon. Billy graduated from Cotton Plant High School in 1953. The following year he joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston where he proudly served his country for 3 years as a Dental Lab Technician. After receiving an honorable discharge, he continued his education in Prosthodontics at Memphis State for 2 years. He later went on to become a Stockbroker and entrepreneur, owning both Stewmon's Ladies & Men's Shop and Stewmon's Flying Service and the Ole Sawmill Café.

In 1959, he married the love of his life, Sara Thorn. They were blessed with three children and enjoyed the precious gift of witnessing their family expand with the addition of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Billy's love for family was a cornerstone of his life and his desire to care and provide for them was a testament to his loving heart.

Billy enjoyed many different hobbies that included motorcycles and antique cars. He had a love of planes that led him to obtain his license as a commercial pilot. Billy was also a 32 degree Mason.

An active member of the Ridgewood Baptist Church in Forrest City, Arkansas, for 15 years, Billy's faith was a guiding light in his life. He was a man of principle, compassion, and generosity, making an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.  He will be remembered as always having a story to tell.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Liberty Stewmon, and his beloved wife of 56 years, Sara Thorn Stewmon.

He is survived by two sons, Tom Stewmon (Marina) of Wynne, Arkansas, Brian Stewmon of Enterprise, Alabama, and a daughter, Stephanie Devazier (Leonard) of Caldwell, Arkansas. His legacy continues with his five grandchildren Nikifor Stewmon, Heath, Hunter, Harrison Devazier, and Logan Stewmon, and seven great grandchildren Jack, Maggie, Harley, Hayes, Hayden, Huxton, and Houston Devazier.

Billy's life was a testament of commitment – to family, to service, and to love, leaving  memories that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
