Betty Sue
Hollis
July 12, 1937 — August 2, 2021
Betty Sue Baker Hollis passed away on August 2, 2021 at Unity Health in Searcy, Arkansas. She was born July 12, 1937 to Merle and Ora Baker and graduated from Hughes High School in 1955. As a teenager, she dedicated her life to Christ at a revival. She met and fell in love with her husband, Raymond Hollis, at Sand Hill Missionary Baptist Church. From their first date attending a revival in Cotton Plant, their shared faith remained at the center of their life together for almost sixty years. In addition to raising three children, Betty retired from Farmer's & Merchant's Bank in Des Arc. She was a member of Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church in Des Arc.
She was known by family and friends for her dedication to the Lord and her love for her family. Her children remember her fondness for singing hymns around the house, and her grandchildren remember her Mickey Mouse pancakes and lessons in shelling pecans and shucking corn. She was also known throughout the community for her delicious yeast rolls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hollis; brothers Hershel Chism, Willie Ray Baker, Truman Baker, Cecil Baker, and Leonard Baker; as well as one great-grandson, Benton Curtis Hitt. She is survived by her son Ricky Hollis; daughters Blenda (Mike) McVey and Donna (Curtis) Hitt; grandsons Eric Hitt, Drew (Tayhlor) McVey, and Caleb Hitt; granddaughter Julie (Jon) McVey Musser; great-granddaughters Annabella, Everley, and Harley Hitt, Bailey Moss, and Anna Musser; sister Janice (Mike) Hicks; and sisters-in-law Lorene Runnels and Glenda Daulton.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 am Saturday August 7, 2021 at Sand Hill Cemetery by Garth Funeral Home. Bro Eddie Addison officiating.
As the old hymn goes, when the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there.
