Obituary

Annie B. Porter , the only child of Ann Scaife and George Porter, was born on April 9, 1940 in Phillips County, Arkansas. She was raised by her grandparents, John and Mamie Scaife.

Annie B. confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Tucker Grove Baptist Church. On November 9,1958 at the tender age of 18, she married the love of her life, Arthur Lee "Bill" Williford. For the next 60+ years they journeyed through life, gaining strength for the journey from their love for God and each other. As their young family grew, they became the parents of six children. Later, they raised several of their grandchildren.

Barbara – Mom was my friend, my mother, my Mom, my Momma. When I say my friend, it's not like today's generation when a child is friends with their parent - no respect…drinking and smoking together, fighting each other. Cursing around her never even occurred to me, even as the adult I am today. There was never a day when I forgot that she was "Momma". Momma loved fishing and flowering. When fishing season started, it didn't matter what was going on, you could find her at "The Creek", making fishing an all-day affair. She loved flowers and didn't care what they cost. She always had beautiful flowers, but no arrangements. She would put them anywhere, everywhere! She absolutely had a green thumb. We did a lot of travelling together before Dad took sick. Mom had one brother, Jimmy Hayes (deceased). And she had so many uncles and aunts that I thought they were my uncles and aunties.

Cynthia – "Just wait 'til your father gets home," was not a phrase that was ever uttered by Momma. Oh no! She took matters into her own hands. And, believe me, she had heavy hands! To this day she is my mother, and I am a child. Even when I knew she did not need snacks, food or anything, I could not refuse her even though I knew it wasn't good for her. She loved being outside with her flowers. She would rather be outside any day instead of inside taking care of the house. She definitely had a green thumb. The other thing she loved was fishing. I can remember she would go fishing with her cousins, Ida, Nana and Eddie from sunrise until sunset. Oh yes, she was good at it! Everyone knew her best friend was Erma "Dan" Sims.

Billie Jean - My mother was one of kind. She would tell you about yourself and not even care how you felt about it. But we loved her still. She loved her flowers; and guess what? l love them too. I will miss you mom. With love, Billie Jean.

Annie B. stayed in contact with her friends at home and her relatives from a distance, even after she moved to Pine Bluff. She also enjoyed her spiritual words of inspiration from Sis. Tillman.

On December 8, 2022, Mom answered the call and went home to rest, joining her husband, Bill; children, Leo, Yancy and Melissa "Gayle", and her brother, Jimmy Hayes.

Those left with cherished memories are three daughters; Barbara (Curtis) Maeweather, Cynthia (Earl) Hunter, both of Pine Bluff, and Billie Jean (Michael) Williams of Jacksonville, AR; daughter-in-law, Yvette Williford of Conway, Arkansas; sister-in-law Willie Mae Davis of Barton, AR; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, her BFF, Erma "Dan" Sims, and many other relatives and friends.
